Bangladesh Petroleum Institute (BPI) was established in the year of 1981 as a development project under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with the view to meet the training need of the personnel of different organizations engaged in exploration, production and distribution of Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources within country. Now BPI is a statutory body through an Ordnance by the government. The future status of BPI will be the Research & Development cell of Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Sector of the country. BPI will be provided with necessary funds available with Petrobangla received against training from the International Oil Companies (IOC) working under Production Sharing Contract(PSC) and BPI may go for joint collaboration in order to enrich its capability and affordability with local or foreign, private institution/enterprises. BPI's plan and program will be set up in such that it could develop as a center of excellence in the petroleum sector with international reputation. As per government decision BPI can even go for joint collaboration under institutional linkage program, development programme etc. with local and foreign private institutions/enterprises for the development of the Institute.
