Welcome to Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources (MPEMR), Bangladesh.

The MPEMR has two Divisions headed by two secretaries; Power Division is responsible for all policies and matters relating to electricity generation, transmission and distribution from conventional and non-conventional energy sources including hydro electricity. Power Sector is unbundled with generation, transmission and distribution. It has six (6) generation, one (1) transmission and five (5) distribution entities. Besides, Power Cell acts as its “Think Tank” provides policy supports. Sustainable Renewable Development Authority (SREDA) is the nodal agency for supporting sustainable and renewable energy development.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division deals with the Import, Distribution, Exploration, Extraction, Pricing and other policy related details of the primary fuels. It has separate entities for Oil, Gas and Coal.
The main entities that look into these issues are Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) is looking after exploration and extraction. The entities are the Bangladesh Gas Field Co. Ltd, Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd, Gas Transmission Co. Ltd, Titas Gas T & D Co. Ltd, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Ltd, Jalalabad Gas T & D System Ltd, Pashchimanchal Gas Co. Ltd, Karnafully Gas Distribution Co. Ltd, Sudarban Gas Co. Ltd, Rupantarita Prakritic Gas Co. Ltd, Barapukuria Coal Mining Co. Ltd, Maddhyapara Granite Mining Co. Ltd. The 3 main distribution companies for Petroleum are Padma, Meghna and Jamuna. 
A company under Petrobangla, Bangladesh gas Fields Limited, looks after the operation of government controlled gas fields. The Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) and Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) are the gas transmission and distribution entities respectively.
In the coal sector, the premier entity is the Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited (BCMCL), which looks after the only operational coal mine in the country.
Other than these, under this division Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB), Bangladesh Mineral Development (BMD), Maddhyapara Granite Mining Company, Explosives Division, Bangladesh petroleum Institute and a few other entities also exist.
